Mr. Benedict has figured out a big problem in the world. Everyone is concerned, but they’re not even sure what the problem is. Mr. Benedict knows, but he doesn’t know how to stop the crisis. So he seeks out help. After seeing an ad in the paper, 11-year-old Reynard comes to take a series of strange tests along with other children. They’re not sure what the tests are for, but they’re soon right alongside Mr. Benedict trying to save the world. They have to go undercover to find out what is truly going on at the Learning Institute for the Very Enlightened and how to stop it with only each other to lean on.
So goes The Mysterious Benedict Society. A great book for children of ages 8-12 and who may be looking for a unique story with a lot of bizarre goings-on. Kids who have braved the large Harry Potter volumes should have no trouble at all reading Trenton Lee Stewart’s 496 page adventure. Each child in The Mysterious Benedict Society has a special gift that comes into play during the story in order to help solve a problem or get the group out of trouble. Kids will have trouble putting down this out of the ordinary tale as they ride along with the group and try to figure out who the villain is and how to save the world. Complete with laughs, gasps, and oh-no-what’s-going-to-happen-next exclamations, The Mysterious Benedict Society has become a favorite amidst the children’s books on the shelves.
