Olivier Dunrae didn’t realize what a hit he had on his hands when he wrote Gossie and Gertie. The book was so well received that he was able to create a bunch of new characters to join the world of Gossie and Gertie, and new adventures that have children enthralled every time they read a book. Often in the world of childrens books, much like in the world of adult books, sequels are not well received. Dunrae’s sequels, however, have been extremely well received since they’ve hit the shelves.
Ollie is one of those sequels that children love. This little gosling is a new sibling for Gossie and Gertie. He is very stubborn and impatient and this becomes apparent as soon as his sisters try to get him to come out of his egg. “I won’t come out” is his refrain, obviously liking his egg shell better than the idea of coming out and facing the world. His sisters however, won’t stand for him staying in the egg for forever, and do everything they can to try to coax Ollie out of his egg!
Many parents look over Ollie and the other books by Dunrae too quickly, likely due to the simple watercolors. Children, however, love the series and often ask for it to be read over and over again. They fall in love with the engaging characters and the fun story. Any Dunrae book is a great addition to a home, and this one is perfect for anyone who has fallen in love with the gosling family.
