The combination of Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond has become a legendary one in the world of children’s
books. The duo have created a number of engaging and downright silly books that have captured the imagination of children and that have helped to
foster a lifetime love of learning. The duo particularly love to write books about animals and silly situations that they can get into with humans. In the book If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, the main character is, this time, a cat who decides to cause a bunch of trouble.
One unique aspect of the If
You Give a Cat a Cupcake book is that it brings back a character that was seen in one of the pair’s other books! If you look closely in If You Give A Pig A Party, you’ll notice that there is a cat in the story – the same kitty that is in this tale! This time the kitty takes center stage, however. The story starts when the kitty is given a cupcake. But of course he can’t be content with just a cupcake – he has to have sprinkles on it as well! And what happens when you put sprinkles on a delightful treat like that? Especially when you’re young? Naturally they spill all over the floor. And since picking up all of those sprinkles can be a hot mess, the kitty decides that it must have a bathing suit in order to go swimming to cool down.
But the tale doesn’t stop there. If You Give a Cat a Cupcake starts with a tasty treat and goes all over the place, including to the beach, into a boat (which gets very interesting indeed), and even though an amusement park! While many may have thought that this fabulous duo of writer and illustrator would eventually run out of steam, this story proves that the two still have plenty of wacky animals and unique situations to talk about, and it begs the question: what’s next? Until we find out, we fortunately have plenty of pages of hilarity to go through with our children.
