Grandma, Grandpa, and Me

If there is one series that kids enjoy reading, it is Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter series. There are over thirty books to choose from, all of them with simple stories that are engaging and perfect for youngsters in preschool or even a little older. Kids can relate to many of the things that Little Critter gets into, from friends to helping out his parents, and everyone, parents and kids alike, will enjoy Mayer’s fun illustrations.

Grandma, Grandpa, and Me is a book that is great for grandparents and grandchildren. Little Critter is spending a day with his grandparents and he’s going to help them do so many things. They’re going to have a great time together – especially since his grandparents live on a farm! Little Critter gets to help milk cows, pick fresh blueberries to put into a pie that he gets to help bake, and then go with them to the County Fair. There, they intend to enter the pie into the pie contest, and Little Critter is sure that because of their special ingredients – “lots of love” – their pie will win first place!

Often picture books that include recurring characters can grow stale, but Mercer Mayer continues to roll right along with Little Critter and his family and friends. Stories are always fresh and fun, and kids will be excited to see Critter’s grandparents’ farm and follow him along as he does all sorts of farm things. And as with any Little Critter story, Grandma, Grandpa, and Me includes Mayer’s trademark illustrations. His artistry is always a delight to behold, and readers take joy in looking at the brightly colored pictures and all the quaint details. As usual, there are plenty of extra little critters running around. Because we’re at a farm, a pig appears in a few of the pages, and there are also a few others that hitched a ride with Little Critter that kids always love to look for – mouse and spider!

Colors are rich, the County Fair is hustling and bustling, and there is so much to do and see in this book. Expect kids to ask for more Little Critter titles once they’ve finished here!
